September 18, 2020
Helen joined one of PIB’s businesses over 20 years ago and has since then moved into her Group role as Market Security and Third Party Due Diligence Manager. We caught up with her to find out about her career to date and the opportunities that come with being part of PIB Group.Tell us about yourself
I can’t say insurance was a career choice for me, I joined an insurance broker on a training scheme straight from school and never looked back. I worked as an Account Handler in several Sheffield based insurance brokers before joining Cooke & Mason in 1997. I worked closely with the MD at the time and my role included everything from account handling and compliance to arranging plumbers to fix the septic tank pump!!
Shortly after we were acquired by PIB Group, I was asked if I could help with insurer TOBA (Terms of Business Agreement) management, splitting my time between this and my role at the time. I then moved to my current Group role and as PIB has continued to expand, I now manage a team of four.
Best thing about being part of PIB Group?
PIB is a growing company and as a result of this, there are always opportunities for people to develop their careers, including taking a completely different path. This isn’t always possible in smaller companies.
What is the role of the Market Security & Third Party Due Diligence Team?
Our main responsibilities are to approve and monitor the markets we place business with, as well as those who place business with us in the MGA and London Market businesses. This includes monitoring financial stability, regulatory and sanctions checking. We also approve and issue Terms of Business Agreements and maintain databases of all the agencies in place across the Group.
How do you relax outside of work?
I love live music, whether it’s a local band in a pub or a stadium gig. I live in Sheffield where there is a great musical heritage and some equally great venues, The Leadmill being the obvious one. We also have Tramlines Music Festival although cancelled this year due to COVID-19 but next year will now be even more special.
