Sam Hinton who is a Commercial Account Handler/Executive grew up dreaming of becoming a footballer. But after taking on a temporary role within his families business at Element Hinton this soon turned into a full-time position after learning the ropes with personal and commercial lines and enjoying being in front of clients. Since Element Hinton became part of PIB Group, Sam has been playing in a leading part in helping the business and his colleagues settle into their new home.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up in Cannock, Staffordshire, not really knowing what I wanted to do other than the usual dream of most young lads to become a footballer. My dad, Richard Hinton and elder brother Matt, both worked in insurance, but it wasn’t something that I wanted to get into!

After finishing school, I went to University in Birmingham and came away with First Class Honours degree. I had been working part time at Element Hinton for the family business to earn a little bit more money whilst studying. I started at the bottom, learning the systems and basically making the tea and doing the filing!

What led you to insurance?

After university, I started full time at Element Hinton but at this point still thought this was just a temporary role whilst I decided what career path to take. However, after learning how to do the personal lines, I started doing small commercial lines and started enjoying it a bit more as getting to know all about other businesses through insurance can be interesting. So, I really fell into insurance due to the family business.

Best thing about being part of PIB?

Best thing about being part of PIB is being part of a bigger team and the potential that brings for growing alongside all other divisions of the company.

Best careers advice you’ve been given or would give?

Best career advice is probably the old cliché of you get what you put in. So, work hard and things will start to pay off. However, I would like to think I am still in early part of my career, so I’ve got a lot more hard work to put in to get to where I want to be.

Biggest achievement (professionally or personally)

Managing the integration into PIB!

How do you relax outside of work?

I enjoy going to the gym and playing football in my spare time and going to watch Wolves where I have a season ticket. I also enjoy going out with for food and drinks with my girlfriend. My dog Archie also enjoys me taking him a walk.
